I would think that at the death of her brother Henrietta was only visiting and not of Perth but then who knows!

I do.  Electoral rolls show that she was in WA from at least 1910 to 1943.  Sometimes she is listed with Edward and she appears to have been working as a Cook.

One of the children's death certs should say whether father is deceased.

On the Australian death certificates I have viewed, I have not seen a column which requires the living/dead status of the deceased person's parents.

Sometimes a "dec" might be casually noted beside a parent name, but in my opinion, it was discretionary information, not a usual part of the completion of the form.

I think it would be an unreliable pathway to finding what you are seeking, though all sorts of other info on the document may be of use.

Thank you Jamjar. The fact that her father was not named is interesting.
Maybe husband and wife had an earlier parting of the ways.
Are you aware of a site recording divorces particularly in the period 1890 to 1900.

Householder, Eliza Cranston, 47 Allen Street, Leichhardt. household has 1 F and 1 M.

Householder, Henry Cranston, Southampton, Clarence River, household has 1M.
 
This Henry is not Walter Henry because Walter is at Hillgrove with 2 M and 3F.

Hi JM,

I thought the same 1 and 4 for Henry Cranston at Southampton until I saw the uninhabited houses also had ditto marks so I took the marks as meaning nil.

I have looked at couple of pages before and after ... I cannot find any nought in the number columns and read some of the instructions etc (pages before) ....  Yes, it seems that the 'ditto' marks were used by this enumerator to represent zero ...      

If so, then Henry was living alone.
