Robert Monahan Wexford Town about 1800
« on: Monday 28 August 17 19:22 BST (UK) »
I am looking for details of the birth of Robert Monahan in Wexford Town. His gravestone in Glasnevin Cemetery states that he was 62 yrs old when he died on 6 Jan 1862. So he was born around 1800. I have details of his marriage in Wexford Town from the Diocese of Ferns records which states that he married Elizabeth Roche on 30 Apr 1832. Do birth records covering that period exist?.

Regards

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

His marriage

If he was from the parish he married in his baptism should be there but there is a gap from 1787 to 1815, marriages usually happened in the bride's parish so it is possible he was from one of the surrounding parishes or even further afield.

Hi Hallmark and Sinann

Thanks for your reply.

I think he was from the town also. His seven children were all born there. The problem is as you say the gap in the birth records.

Kind Regards

There is no gap in the baptism records. There is a gap in the microfilmed records.

Thanks for the reply Wexflyer.

Would you know why the birth records for this period are not on microfilm, or where these records are kept and possibly what church he was baptised in.

Kind regards

The NLI did not microfilm quite a few registers to my knowledge.
The registers are in the parish church - Rowe St.
Not sure he would have been baptised in church as opposed to home, perhaps someone else can comment on that.
Parish church at the time was the Franciscan Friary.
The records are available online via RootsIreland.
