Hammond family of Boyland Hall (17th century)
« on: Tuesday 29 August 17 11:11 BST (UK) »
John Hammond is listed as "gent. of Boyland Hall". I attempted to research the Hammond's but nothing has come up. He married Elizabeth Chittleburgh in Morningthorpe in 1687 and had, as far as I know, two children, Susanna and Chittleburgh.

Has anyone come across this family living at Boyland Hall? Or were they just boarding there for a while?

Also, can anyone help with finding any information on John and Elizabeth's children?

There is some info of the owners (Garney, Drake and Irby) here:

No mention of Hammond, though.

On the British-History website, there are details of Morningthorpe.

In the church, there are memorials for the following persons,

Hammond, or, on a chevron sab. three martlets of the field, impaling quarterly.

Hic infrą jacet depositum mortale Francisci Hamond Generosi, Viri qui ob pietatem Deo charus, ob Prudentiam Reipublicę utilis, ob gravitatem morum, omnibus venerabilis, maximum vixit hujus Comitatūs Ornamentum, et maximum est ejusdem jam defunctum desiderium, nascebatnr 7mo die Decemb. 1687
(Google translate says: This deposit lies beneath the mortal Francis Hammond noble men on the pity is precious, because Practicality for the state, because of the seriousness of all revered largest lived Comitatūs of jewelry, and the same is now deceased great desire on December nascebatnr 7m. 1687)

Just a word of caution! ;D

In addition to Boyland Hall, which was demolished in 1947, there is also an Old Boyland Hall ::)

Some fairly recent newspaper reports of the "Old" hall; via google.
