Hi wb54,

If no one beats me to this I think it likely that I will be able to do this at some point over the next 4 weeks.  (I am expecting my new shift rota to be out soon.  I am off to work now.)

However, unless John was someone like a local dignatory, etc, he would probably only have a death notice rather than an obituary.

Best Wishes :)

Hi William,

There is a death notice in the Evening Chronicle dated Saturday, March 18, 1944:

'RANKIN, Gateshead, 12 Hymers Court, 16th, aged 73, John beloved husband of Dinah (Lindsay). Inter. Gateshead, Monday; lift 2.45.  Funeral Private.'

Also, I thought you might like to have the memoriam notice too, which was placed in the Evening Chronicle on 16th March in 1945:

'Rankin (Gateshead).  In loving memory of my dear father, John died March 16 1944.  Three little words, forget-me-not.  Look so small but mean a lot.  From his loving wife, daughter Martha, son-in-law Harry and family and grandson Gibson (This notice finished with two capital letters which are hard to make out - could be R.N.?)

Best Wishes :)
