Hi Jeannie,
You can order a transcription of the death certificate which is cheaper (about $20) and they e-mail it to you.
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history/family-history.aspx
Scroll down to bottom of page where it mentions transcription agents.

It was possibly a missing comma which caused you to think Granville was given as his mother's maiden name  ;D

Jamjar,

My apologies for the missing comma or full stop.I can see how it looks now .

I am afraid when I was posting, I was quite excited, that I may have ended almost 20 years of searching, that I probably got carried away!

Sorry.

Rosball

Thank you so much for the link, I am going to send for the certificate now. It is such a shame that all my family are deceased, and I have no one to share this news with . Twenty years ago, it would have made such a difference.

Hi Jeannie,
Are you certain that Arthur didn't come to Australia?  (and perhaps return to England).  What year was he born?

adding : I was starting to look at this possibility http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/Veteran.aspx?serviceId=A&veteranId=818400

Hi there,

Perhaps as an aside ...

NSWBDM's Granville district included more than Granville, the suburb.  For example, deaths at Lidcombe State Hospital and Home were frequently registered "Granville".

https://www.records.nsw.gov.au/agency/1999

In the years immediately before 1927 it was known as Rookwood State Hospital and Asylum for Aged and Infirm Men, Lidcombe.    In 1927 it became known as Lidcombe State Hospital and Home.   It catered for Older Men and for Infirm Men.

Rosball,

I have not,as yet, looked into whether Arthur visited his brothers  in Australia.

he was born 21st October 1891 and died in 1963 . As far as I can ascertain, he never married.

Majm

Thank you for finding Joseph Maurice, on the 1932 electoral register.

I have  sent for the death certificate, this will tell me why he was a invalid. He was discharged from the army because of chronic Nephritis ......

Am I right in thinking he must have been a citizen proper,to be on a voters list ?

Regards
