Brickwall. Ladder needed
« on: Thursday 31 August 17 03:15 BST (UK) »
Looking for Arthur A Stonehouse b Hetton Le Hole Durham 1879.

Where i have looked;
F.S, Ancestry, Find my past, My Heritage, TheGenealogist, FreeBMD, FreeCen.

What i have found;
1901 Census
Isabell Jefferson  Head F    57  Shildon Durham
Joesph Jefferson  Son   M  35  Shildon Durham
John Kipling        Boarder  M 24 Bishop Auckland Durham
Arthur A Stonehouse Boarder  M 22 Hetton Le Hole Durham ( 1879) Railway Clerk

Living at 3 Magdala Terrace Shildon
RG13 Piece 4647 Folio 61 Pg 19

Background information;
My great grandfather, Edwin Stonehouse married Elizabeth Ann Jefferson 26 September 1903 in New Shildon. Both had the address 3 Magdala Terrace Shildon on the Marriage Certificate.
Elizabeth was the daughter of Isabell Jefferson noted in the 1901 census.
I have no Arthur A Stonehouse in my tree. The only reference i have to him is the 1901 census.
No birth marriage or death. Can not find him on any other census. Have even checked the original to check he has not been mistranscribed.
I would like to know a bit more about Arthur so i can see if he fit's into my tree somewhere. I have been researching my Stonehouse family for 30 years and this is the only Arthur i have found.

Any help as always is most appreciated

I wonder of Arthur A's  middle name was Adam??   https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q271-8XR9

I can see this Adam in 1881 and  1891 with his parents but not post this date

I did find that one but could not follow through to see where he went. Mother's maiden name was Robson.
Think from memory he had a different middle name.
Thanks for looking

There is a tree on Anc that lists this Adam as having a son Kenneth in Cape Town in 1908 with wife Bertha Stewart so it is possible he might have left the UK pre 1901  :-\

Adam's occupation is the same as Arthur A's occupation in 1901  :)

There is a passenger list which has an A Stonehouse leaving for Cape Town in 1902 but age given as 28 - occupation given as railway.Also an outward passeneger list in Oct 1927 for a Mr A Stonehouse, Mrs  B Stonehouse and Master D Stonehouse leaving for Cape Town.

Family search has a marriage for a Desmond Stonehouse born 1912 in 1943 - one of witnesses is B Stonehouse.

Also a death for an Arthur Adam Stonehouse (b 1879) 9 Feb 1929 - address 17 Jameson Street,Cape Town - there is an image but it will not load for me!

There are a couple of service records for an Adam Stonehouse born Hetton le Hole 1878 or 1879 signing up in 1897 -one says he was discharged in 1898 regarding a civil felony.

Newspaper archive does have some articles regarding Adam Stonehouse but these seem to refer to father Adam "unlawfully wounding his son, Thomas."
