tracking down Remuera,Auckland warhero Sgt M.J.Cronin
« on: Thursday 31 August 17 07:40 BST (UK) »
For my research I trying to get in touch with the relatives of Sgt Maxwell Joseph Cronin RNZAF. At the age of 21 he took part in a Wellington Bomber crew(57 Squadron) as a second pilot before he get his own crew. On the 27th December 1941 the aircraft was shotdown over Someren and almost the entire crew killed.  It is my intention to erect a small token near the crashsite in memory to this crew and I would like to get in touch with the relatives of the crew. I am in touch already with three crew relatives. Max is the son of E.D.W.Cronin and of Mary Florence Cronin of Remuera, Auckland.NZ. Max is buried along with his comrades at Eindhoven General Cemetery (War grave section) in The Netherlands.
Bomber Command research during WW2 in the South Eastern part of The Netherlands. Especially aircraft crash research and locating their crews.

In the 1914 Electoral Roll there is a Marie Cronin, spinster and Bartholomew Cronin - school teacher, living with Edward Denis Joseph Cronin, chemist, and a Mary Cronin married. All at Saltburn Road Takapuna.
Edward's third middle name doesn't match with the third initial you gave and Mary Jane doesn't match with Mary Florence.

According to the Probate documents for Edward Denis Joseph CRONIN, his wife Mary Florence CRONIN stated that their only children were > namely, Patricia Barbara CRONIN and Maxwell Joseph CRONIN
(as of 1927 the children were aged 11 and 6 years respectively).

Will add Probate link next post.

1919 Edward Denis Joseph and Mary Florence are at 249 Hastings Street Napier. There are other Cronins at different addresses bit none of those living with them in 1914.
Edward Denis Joseph is on the  New Zealand Army WWI Reserve Rolls, 2nd Division in 1917 when he was living in Napier.

The Bartholemew Cronin and Mary Jane Cronin were married according to Bartholemew's cemetery record. Bartholemew died 31 October 1924 age 75. Buried Otahuhu Catholic cemetery
Edward Denis is in the same cemetery with a broken headstone with a corner missing. Edward denis was 42 when he died 1927. I wonder if Bartholemew was his father?
