George and Sarah Ann Smith of Spofforth
« on: Thursday 31 August 17 14:57 BST (UK) »
I hope someone can help with some early information on these two people, please
I have census information on them and their children from 1871 onwards, but nothing before that, in 1871 they lived in Kippax near Leeds, and from 1881 onwards lived at Spofforth near Harrogate, where George was a Gamekeeper and then a Fishmonger.
Their census info. would seem to indicate that George was born appx 1834 in Lincoln, ( City or County??), and Sarah, appx 1833 in Peterboro.  I believe they had seven children, the first three of whom were born in York, Emily 1863, Louisa 1865  and Mary 1867 whilst the family lived in Osbaldwick, but I don't have them there in 1861.
Sarah's maiden name appears as 'Dennis' on Louisa's Birth certificate.
I believe George died in 1906 and Sarah in 1909, both in Spofforth.

Can anyone help please  with dates and places of birth, date and place of marriage, anything for census of 1841,1851, 1861, any details of parents, siblings etc, or exact death dates.

I know there are a lot of Smiths out there, hope someone may be able to help, thanks

I can't see a birth registration for Emily c1863, the other childrens do show mmn Dennis/Denniss.
Freebmd appears to have some York Emilys' 1863/64 that I don't see on the GRO website.

I wonder if George or Sarah were married before as Sarah would have been about 33 when Emily was born

1871 from familysearch (Original does give George's place of birth as Lincoln )

Does he have a daughter Rose 1871?  Just to make sure I have the right family.

Baptism for Rose has father Innkeeper so that would fit with George the brewer.

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply, yes George and Sarah dis have a daughter Rose/Rosa, b.25/11/1871, along with other children Harry, 1872, Alice 1874 and Tom 1876.
It seems that George changed his profession frequently, 1871 census Coal Miner, 1881 gamekeeper, 1891 Fishmonger...I suppose the 1861 reference you have could a guide, but not confirmed.
  Thanks again
