Surrogate court New York (need help with line in document)
« on: Thursday 31 August 17 22:20 BST (UK) »
Hi I came across this document about the last will and testament of my relation Bridget Sweeney. It states that "that the deceased let no surviving widow". Widow is scored out and it is changed to no husband, Does this mean that Bridget was separated and her husband was still alive.

I would think the opposite - that she was a widow and there was no surviving husband?

Seconded!

thanks for your opinion on the document. still not 100% sure why the word widow has been  scrawled out to be replaced by the word " no husband" if Bridget Sweeneys was a widow then there should be no need to make any changes to the form. But again many thanks for your opinions

widow isn't applicable for a woman, if the document pertained to a man then it would be applicable " left no surviving widow "

Technically I suppose it should say left no surviving widower but no husband would mean the same as she is a Mrs.
