Look up request
« on: Friday 01 September 17 15:28 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I haven't done any family historying for ages as I am meant to be studying when ever I sit at the computer but the lure of searching has called me back!

I am about to fill in the Request for Service Records for my Grandfather and Great Uncle and was wondering whether anyone had any access to service numbers? I don't know if it's something that can be looked up. I have my great uncle's service number as it's on a medal box but have no idea for my grandfather. His details are:

Name: Ronald Squire Edwards
DOB: 25th May 1919 - Flintshire
Served in the Royal Engineers initially based in Dover but must have been in the Faroe Islands at one point as his first son has Sverri as his middle name and I think someone said it came from the Faroe Islands (am doubting this as I type it...he does definitely have that as his middle name though!) Think he just served for the war, he was a carpenter by trade.
Died 11th October 1974 aged 55 of heart failure despite having always been a very fit and active man. Sadly I never got to meet my Grandfathers on either side of the family.

Any help very gratefully received,
Frodo

You can get the service records from the MOD without the service number  ;D
