« on: Friday 01 September 17 17:20 BST (UK) »
I have a copy of the pre-1855 Monumental Inscriptions for Kinross Cemeteries.
The cemeteries are:
1….CLEISH Churchyard

2….FOSSOWAY Churchyard

3.…FOSSOWAY Old Churchyard

4….KINROSS Kirkgate

5.…KINROSS West Churchyard

6….MILNATHORT Churchyard

7….ORWELL Old Churchyard

8….PORTMOAK Chapel

9.…PORTMOAK Farm: only 4 stones – one dated 1684 – no names

10…PORTMOAK Churchyard

11...TULLIBOLE Old Churchyard

12...BLAIRINGONE Churchyard

Lookups welcome but remember they are pre-1855 inscriptions although some stones also have later dates.

Hi. I have a Margaret Graham who married Robert Anderson in Beath on 2 Jan 1802. I suspect she might be the Margaret Graham born 15 Dec 1775 in Orwell, Kinross-shire to Robert Graham [& probably Margaret Wylie, as she is named as the mother of subsequent Robert Graham children in Orwell and Kinross]. Would you mind looking at Kinross-shire MI's for references to Robert Graham & Margaret Wylie.

I see that you have an interest in "Lawrie". A son of the above Robert Anderson & Margaret Graham, Robert Anderson b1804, married a Margaret "Lawtie" [or Latto] who was born c1813-1816 in Fossoway [per 1851, 1861, 1871 Census]. The marriage was in Ballingry, Fife on 23 Nov 1839. Would you have you come across this Margaret Lawtie?

Thanks

In Kinross Kirkgate cemetery:
41: by John Graham teacher in Gruce Salins? (that’s what’s written along with the question mark – I’ve no idea where it is), to Robert Graham 12.10.1816 64: Margaret Wylie 25.10.1822 80: Thomas Graham 1.12.1830 61: Thomas Graham 27.10.1835 15

42 (in front of no.41) (on top) I.G.    I.G. : James Graham 1710 35

I found John Graham, teacher in the census.
still no idea where Gruce Salins is.
1841 census: Main Street, Kinross, Kinrossshire, Scotland
John   Graham   Male   50   1791   Kinrossshire, Scotland
Janet   Graham   Female   45   1796   Kinrossshire, Scotland

1851 census:West Side, Main Street, Kinross, Kinrossshire, Scotland
John Graham   Head M Male 64 1787 Retired School Master Kinrossshire, Scotland

I’ve seen the Lawtie name several times but have not paid any attention to it.

Hi Jack,
There are only three inscriptions for the Johnston/e name in the Kinross cemeteries:
Cleish cemetery:
41: Harry Young esquire of Cleish at Cleish Castle 19.10.1897 77, wife Mary Johnston at Cleish Castle 21.9.1890 74

Portmoak cemetery:
30: Thomas Millar of West Brockley & Letham 19.7.1845 79, wife Marjory Johnston 27.5.18-7 71, only son Thomas 22.4.1834 34, youngest daughter Marjory 12.12.1841 37

Tullibole Old cemetery:
10: (Table Stone) James Russel VDM, wife Janet Blackwood 2.11.1786 36, children Elizabeth 2.6.1779 7 months, Thomas 15.7.1779 5, Margaret 6.3.178[5 or 8] 17, Helen or mrs Johnstone 26.3.1842 65, Janet J 1842. (see Small i 378 for reverend James Russel)
I have no idea what VDM stands for and it’s not in the list of abbreviations.

There are eleven seven inscriptions for the Paton name so give me a wee clue as to who you are looking for.

Hi,
All of my Broun/Brown ancestors would be in most of those cemeteries.
I'm interested in all the Broun/Brown pre-1855 inscriptions if you have them.
One particular one that we have been searching for for years is from James Brown to his grandparents, possibly Ebenezer Broun of Finderlie and Christian Thomson in the old Orwell churchyard.
Being on the other side of the world makes it hard for us to find them.
Anyhow, any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Greg.

Hi Buckhyne,
sorry to get back to you so late.
My Paton connection is
Peter Paton born 1792/1806 and married Janet Geddes and Maybe Janet Millar.
Their daughter Margaret Paton bc1825 Kinross.

There are other children of Peter Paton and both Janets but I know they died in other places.

Cheersd
Jack
