Thanks emeltom - moving house has played havoc with my filing.  I'm still trying to get straight after the removal men just packed everything that was in the study into various boxes which I'm trawling through slowly.  ::)

I've sent for the death certificate and hope it's the right Agnes, I'm sure it is.

Well the death certificate for Agnes Holme, aged 37 arrived this morning and sadly,it is the wrong Agnes.  So even though the death occurred in Preston, where my 2 x g.aunt was living in 1851, the husband on the certificate is a John Holme, not James, and his occupation is a Master Fellmonger, which is a dealer in hides, particularly sheepskin, who might also prepare the hides for tanning.  My 2 x g.aunt's husband was James and his occupation in 1839 at his marriage was a husbandman, on the 1841 census he was an iron ore miner and on the 1851 census he was a brickmaker.  I'm not sure he could go from that to being a Master Fellmonger in 4 years, and also change his name - although a change of name is less unlikely.

So it looks as though we are back to the drawing board  :'(

Yes, that must be her.  My Agnes Holmes is on HO107; Piece: 2267; Folio: 601; Page: 61.  I've now bought 2 wrong certs for Agnes and a wrong one for her husband James, so I'm no nearer to finding them after 1851.  I'll have to do some more searching.
