Brick Wall 1851 and 1861 census Jane Elizabeth Jackman born 1845, Leeds
« on: Saturday 02 September 17 13:54 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to find this person - I can find records of two baptisms although I'm not sure why there were two. I can find her marriage in 1869 to Lund and subsequent entries on the census. But I can't find her in 1851 or 1861. Her mother Elizabeth Jackman is in Ripon with her mother Ann Dodsworth who remarried after her husband died in 1851. But Jane Elizabeth isn't there. I've tried various spellings but no joy. Hope somebody can help,

Thank you

Born 1st quarter of 1845 no MMN so looks like illegitimate. Is it possible that she's with relatives under their surname.

I couldn't see her, also look at neighbouring houses (on the original census) to her parent as she may be there. In 1861 she would be working so could be in service.

Do you have her marriage cert. with an address for her?

The baptism on February 6th looks as though it has 'bapt at home' alongside date.  She was born
29 Jan 1845 so would only have been a few days old and possibly not expected to live.  It is normal in such cases for the child to then be later accepted into the church

Gosh that was quick. I'm ok after 1871, it's 1851 and 1861 I'm struggling with. Thanks for the explanation of the two baptisms. When she married she was living at 'Horton' which is in Bradford. She was a confectioner. I've tried various Jackman families and tried her first names and year of birth without surname, but no joy.

Gosh that was quick. I'm ok after 1871, it's 1851 and 1861 I'm struggling with.

Given the two different mmn for Jane & Richard's children I'm wondering if this his her on 1851 census  :-\

There’s this 1851 census entry for a Jane E Williamson age 6 born Leeds
dau of John & Jane

Is this her on 1901 census?

I’m wondering if Jane Williamson born c 1818 Kirby Malzeard Yorkshire on 1851 census (married to John) is related to Elizabeth Jackman and Jane Elizabeth b1845 is her niece rather than daughter and they brought her up hence mother's maiden name for Jane Lund's son Arthur born 1872 given as Jackman-Williamson

There’s this marriage entry

Dec 1840 Leeds
John WILLIAMSON
Female name on same page
Jane JACKMAN

Edit

I can't see a birth entry on GRO for a Jane Elizabeth WILLIAMSON born 1845 Leeds
only the one already mentioned for JEJ showing blank for mother's maiden name

JACKMAN, JANE  ELIZABETH     -
1845  M Quarter in LEEDS  Volume 23  Page 516

EDIT

Yorkshire BMD marriage 1840

St Mark, Woodhouse   Leeds
WILLIAMSON   John
JACKMAN   Jane

Sorry I can't find Jane Elizabeth Jackman/Williamson on 1861 census but this looks to be Jane Williamson who is widowed https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7NS-9F6

I also noticed on the 1851 census for Elizabeth Jackman with her mother Ann Dodsworth https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SP9N-VT6 the address is the same as for John, Jane & Jane E Williamson, Queen Street Ripon

ADDED

Did one last try have not found Jane Elizabeth Jackman on 1861 census  ???

You may already have these details as you mention she is not with her mother on 1851/1861 censuses

1861 census Christopher Dodsworth age is living with his son in law
Thomas Bannister and his wife Elizabeth born 1828 Leeds and their 5 children
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M71N-SH5

BANNISTER, SARAH  ELIZABETH mmn JACKMAN
1852  D Quarter in EASINGWOLD  Volume 09D  Page 294

Thomas & Elizabeth Bannister plus 8 children
1871c https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VBHV-S3S

BANNISTER, EDWARD  JACKMAN mmn JACKMAN
GRO Reference: 1864  M Quarter in GREAT OUSEBURN  Volume 09A  Page 87

other birth entries on GRO indexes showing mmn Jackman

Dec 1851 Ripon
Thomas Bannister
Female name on same page
Elizabeth JACKMAN

Do you know Elizabeth Jackman's father's name & his occupation?

The marriage certificate of Jane Jackman to John Williamson should give you
her father's name and occupation and hopefully it matches that of Elizabeth Jackman's marriage
