Identify this school 1908 Folkestone?
« on: Saturday 02 September 17 15:50 BST (UK) »
I have a set of 8 photos of a prep school in the Folkestone area between 1908-12. Attached is a photo of 1908. Holding the bat is my grandfather Ernest Porter b.1897, his brothers Harold b.1899 and Charles b. 1900 are in other photos.
Can anyone identify the school?
I hoped that the 1911 census would help, but Ernest is at home and I cannot find his brothers.
The photos were taken by Halksworth Wheeler of Church St. Folkestone.
In the faint hope that someone else is researching this era, I am listing other surnames( no first names) which were pencilled in at the time:
Alexander, Ashworth, Badley, Basil, Bright, Brooke, Cheeny, Colchester, Cooper, Ferrier, Fletcher, Harker, Harrison, Howard, Knowles, Lilley, Mayhew, Ommanney/Omnzany?, Reeves, Selby, Stephens/Stevens, Thorns, Watts, Wickham, Winters, Woodruff.

I think it may be Feltonfleet, Shorncliffe Road Folkestone.  ;)

Is it significant that they are nearly all, 6 of them, wearing the Star of David??

Have you tried :- http://www.folkestonehistory.org/

Thank you Rosie you are right , it is Feltonfleet. I've been searching again this afternoon for Harold who was killed aged 19 in WW1 and found an obituary from Tonbridge school saying he went there from Feltonfleet.
I had wondered about the hexagram/star of David but am not aware of any Jewish connection, from either the family or school.
If anyone has a link with the other names listed, I'd be happy to send a copy of the relevant pic.

Yes, I think I know where they all were in 1911, parents and 2 children at home in Folkestone, the two eldest in Canada, 3 daughters in France/Germany and the remaining 2 boys boarding at Feltonfleet just down the road from home!
Thanks again for all your help

It was good to see some of the other surnames mentioned in your photo with them in 1911  ;D
