From the Ontario Genealogy Society Newsletter dated Sept. 2, 2017,

"Editor’s Note:  The 1921 Census of Canada has been available since 2013 on Ancestry.ca, but was only accessible for free to those with a Canadian IP address.  It is now available to all researchers for free on the LAC (Library and Archives Canada) website."

Well I've been accessing it from the UK for free via ancestry.ca without any problems ever since 2013!
And yet even John D Reid stated on his blog this week that it had been freely available on ancestry "from locations across Canada"
So that has me puzzled.

Ditto the 1940 US census on ancestry.com (which is also free on FamilySearch)
But it is good news of course.

By the way, all Canadian and US census records are free this weekend on the respective ancestry websites.

Confirmation of those dates - Ancestry is making all their occupational records for US and Canadian customers FREE! Thursday, August 31st through Monday, September 4th.
