Victor Poole
« on: Saturday 02 September 17 20:56 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Not sure if anyone would be able to help but here goes - my Grandfather Victor D Poole was born in 1932 in Chepstow. He emigrated to Canada with his new wife Margaret sometime shortly after 1956. How would I go about searching for him? I have assumed that he has since passed away but I may be wrong.
Thanks in advance,

Deborah

Hi Deborah,

What was his middle name ? Any ideas where in Canada ? There are no Central registries/indexes in Canada for BMDs.  Canada has very strict privacy laws and each province imposes its own even further.  Additionally, some provinces are more research friendly than others so researching in Canada can be challenging.

I was afraid you might say that, unfortunately I have no clue as to which part of Canada they went to. I believe his middle name is Derek if that is any help.

Thanks for the info.

Have you checked FreeBMD for Britain.  I believe you will find that his middle name is not Derek as the next boy was named Derek.

What was Victor's occupation ? Could be a long shot you never know  ;)

Canada Voters List shows a Victor Poole - artist - and a Mrs Margaret Poole - book-keeper living at 106 Corby Crescent. Peel. Ontario.  Also at the same address Kenneth Campbell -stock auditor and Joyce Campbell.

1965 Victor described as an illustrator and Margaret - clerk typist. Kenneth and Joyce Campobel are next door at 108 and the Rutherfords - Donald - computer programmer and Maureen a typist are living at 106.

1968 - Just Victor and Margaret living at 106 Corby Crescent. Peel, Ontario.

Victor was a Carpenter by trade before he left for Canada and I am unsure about Margaret. We always believed his middle name to be Derek - his date of birth is 28/02/1932. I will see if I can find out some more information.

Thanks,

Deborah

So probably not a match for your couple. Do you know if they had children ?

Was their marriage in 1952, Willesden?
Her first name actually Marguerite? As found on her birth and the marriage registration.
https://www.freebmd.org.uk/

If so there looks to be two children 1953 and 1958 (cannot name here) , with her fairly uncommon maiden surname (she may still be living, not naming it here) .

Or, was the marriage Sep Qtr 1957 in Gloucester?

Cheers

Hi there,

The marriage was the one in Gloucester, they married after my Mother was born in 1956 (to Victors first wife Jean).

Thanks
