Where to get a will
« on: Saturday 02 September 17 23:44 BST (UK) »
I have found the following entry in the England & Wales National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations):

Clibborn Isabel Sarah of 62 Brisbane Rd, Ilford Essex widow died 28th December 1933 at the King George Hospistal, Ilford Administration Oxford 17th January to Henry Ernest Fairley Clibborn schoolmaster and Raymond Hugo Clibborn mercantile marine officer.  Effects £1196 1s 8d

Where would I be able to see a copy of this will?  Would it be held somewhere in Oxford, Essex or is there a central repository for wills?  Thanks

Wills can be ordered on line from https://www.gov.uk/search-will-probate at £10. They are ready to be downloaded in about a week.

HOWEVER  yours says "Administration" so that just means permission was granted for the estate to be distributed. There wasn't a will.

"Types of grant

Not all grants of representation contain a will. Check the type of grant when you search:

‘Probate’ or ‘Grant and Will’ - a will exists and will be provided
‘Admon with Will’ or ‘Grant and Will’ - a will exists and will be provided
Administration (Admon) or Grant’ - a will doesn’t exist and won’t be provided  "

Probably not what you wanted to hear  ;D ;D ;D  However it has saved you sending off £10 and just getting back the letter of administration which I don't think would tell you anything else.

Indeed.  Disappointing but, as you say, saved myself a tenner!  Thanks.

Sorry to trouble you again but I've come up with another problem and you seemed to know your way around the system.

England and Wales National Probate Calendar
Clibborn Henry Joseph of 82 Roseneath Rd Urmston Lancashire died 15th July 1929 at Park Hospital Davyhulme Manchester Administration (with Will) Oxford 11 October to Isabel Sarah Clibborn widow.  Effects £202 3s.

But there isn't a will on the Find a Will/Gov.Uk site.  Is it possible that there wasn't a will but the person who sorted out the estate thought there was and wrongly reported the existence of a will?

Where are you looking, I've found it on the site, but it won't let me post a link to the actual page.

Go to https://www.gov.uk/search-will-probate

Click:   Start Now

Make sure you click  1858 - 1996  (I've made the mistake of forgetting to do that before, and then of course nothing shows!)

Put in Clibborn and 1929  and it's on the left hand side of the page.

You won't get the actual will on the site, if that's what you are thinking, you have to apply for that, it costs £10. They then email you a link to it in about a week and you can download it

Thank you so much.  I hadn't clicked on the 1858 - 1996.  Got it now.  Thanks.

As I said, an easy mistake to make, glad you've found it.
