Gearon / Geron
« on: Sunday 03 September 17 04:46 BST (UK) »
Thomas Gearon / Geron married Catherine Gaffey during Oct-Dec 1889 in Belfast, Ireland according to the Ireland, Civil Registration Marriages Index 1845-1958.

They went on to have five children John, Mary, Maggie, Patrick and Thomas.

Any information about Thomas or Catherine (parents etc) would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I can see from the marriage record that Thomas' father was Patrick and the father of Catherine "Kate" was James Kennedy.

If anyone is able to provide information, that would be fantastic.  Thanks everyone.

A transcribed version of the 1889 St. Patrick's church marriage record gives the groom's parents as Patrick Gearon and Mary Quinlan of 4 Rotherhithe Road, Bermondsey, London.  The bride's parents are given as James Kennedy and Kate Fitzpatrick, the following Drumlane RC parish baptism of 3 December 1868 for Catherine Kennedy (parents James Kennedy and Catherine Fitzpatrick) is right on the money location wise, the address being Kilconny (3rd entry down from top):
http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634854#page/6/mode/1up

Same parish has an 1861 marriage for James Kennedy and Catherine 'Fitzp', again the address is Kilconny (12th entry down):
http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634853#page/100/mode/1up

There were probably more children to this couple, for example, possibly the same James Kennedy and Catherine Fitzpatrick had a daughter Bridget in 1875 and a son John in 1881:

As said, just a possibility, they are common names, but on the information so far... this is possible family in 1901 and 1911, John's marriage in 1912, and Catherine's death in 1922:

Notwithstanding the birthplace indicated by the 1911 census return for house 36 in Mayfair Street Belfast, the 1901 England census has a 37 year old married Private Thomas Gearon in the Royal Rifle Reserves in Portsmouth, his birthplace given as Bermondsey, London.  Further to that, his military record shows that he signed up for the regiment in Belfast in May 1900, it confirms matching details for his wife and children and it cites an address in Mayfair Street Belfast, ie. it's the correct Thomas Gearon.  It also indicates that he was born in London (parish of Surrey).
