Hi Pauline
I am wondering if Thomas Smith has been a bit sneaky and married Sarah Anne whilst still married to Amy.  He is missing on the 1891 census as someone has kindly looked up for me, Amy is on her own with the children and in 1901 the children are on their own, no father or mother on the census.  Now I have to find where Thomas Smith was in 1891 and 1901.  It is definately in the 1911 census in Cardiff, it all fits, Thomas born in Leeds, stonemason William Henry born in Birmingham and Ellen is Mary Ellen child of Thomas and Sarah Anne (Annie) William Henry Smith Married Mabel Bowden in Cardiff and had a child Clifford Smith.  I will now try and find Thomas and also the marriage.  Thanks for the help NEATWHEAT

Marriage of William Henry Smith & Mabel Bowden gives Thomas's occupation as Machinist.  Witnesses were Ernest Edward Smith & Mary Ellen Smith

Thank you Rosie, that proves that they had more children than my friend thought, he only gave me Thomas Smith who died age 4 and William Henry Smith who is his grandfather.  I found John Thomas Smith.

Thank you everyone for your help

We now have the Marriage Certificate for Thomas Smith and Amy Billingsley in 1879 but not really much help, the father of the groom is John Smith Deceased and he was a Iron Moulder  The witnesses are from the BIllingsley Family.  The marriage took place in Birmingham but Thomas was born in Leeds, I have found a family in Leeds in 1861 of John Smith, Ann Smith  (wife) With a son Thomas Smith and age fits,  with sisters Sarah and Priscilla but no proof this is the right family
Regards
