Service info for grandad
« on: Sunday 03 September 17 21:41 BST (UK) »
I have my grandads service number on my dads birth certificate. 14385391 & says gunner
I have put the info in a forces search website but nothing is coming up for that number. Does anyone else know where I may find that info? If I send off to the MOD for info will they give me enough info without next of kin permission? As sadly my dad and his sister don't talk and out of spite she would never give her permission

The records are not on line as they are after 1920 and are still with MOD.  You should go ahead and apply for the record.  Check out the process here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/request-records-of-deceased-service-personnel   The next of kin form you will see makes no distinction between a son (your father) and a daughter (the sister).  You can fill in the box marked son/daughter truthfully saying you have the permission of the son of the person concerned. The death cert and £30 and away you go.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

As above and stay away from Forces Records. If he was a Gunner then at that time he would have been serving with a Royal Artillery unit.
