Thank you for all the suggestions and leads that so many people have given to me. I'm processing all the material and will use it to prepare the third Addenda to my family history, 'The Collicoats of Castlemaine', a copy of the three reports may be read in the Castlemaine Historical Society to whom I've donated a copy. The reports on the wreck of the 'Cheviot' that John and Jane Marriott survived makes for a really interesting read. Half the crew and passengers were lost and John and Jane were rescued clinging on to a line fired out from a cannon as the seas were too rough to launch a rescue boat. Cheviot Bay was later famous as the place Prime Minister, Harold Holt drowned. There is even a newspaper piece written by John on his experiences. While he gives the impression in his article that he and his wife who were God fearing souls fairly calmly dealt with the situation, he suffered from a weakened heart and the accident was suggested by one writer to have probably contributed to his relatively early death at 59.
