Flensburg Stationmaster 1854-then Denmark, now Germany
« on: Monday 04 September 17 11:48 BST (UK) »
I am looking for an image of the Englishman J.S.Louth who was stationmaster at Flensburg when the railway was commissioned by Frederick VII of Denmark.

Can anybody help?

Danny

Hi Danny

Here is a picture of him (page 4): https://tidsskrift.dk/jernbanehistorie/article/download/26905/23661

There are a couple of English pages from page 107.

Ian, thank you so much.

I had thought this was a long shot, and that I probably wouldn't hear from anybody: so this is great.

Are you a Danish speaker?

Now, if I understand properly, J.S.Louth was originally employed to run the Schleswig Holstein Railway, but moved on to manage another Danish railway when SH became part of Prussia.

This is news to me. I thought he returned to England when the Prussians took over.

Hi Danny

I managed to find him and his family in the 1860 Census records  in Flensburg:

Here is the history of "Jysk-Fyenske Jernbaner" he worked on. He was director between 1862-1866 (in German unfortunately):
