marriage certificate
« on: Tuesday 05 September 17 01:13 BST (UK) »
I need to order a marriage cert in order to ensure that the bride is mine and to find details of the groom in order to try and trace him. Maud E Edmonds-Bayliss married Charles H Bishop 1933 Hackney. Charles dies 1964 Hackney and a Maud E Bishop marries William Godfrey 1965 Hackney. In order to ensure that the 1965 Maud is mine I need to include her fathers name. My question is do I show her father as Edmonds-Bayliss, Edmonds Bayliss or Bayliss.

Assuming you have the 1st MC, the details from that for her father as I wouldn't think that would change?

May also be worth doing a search for a death for Maud E Bishop 1st just to give you more confidence?

If you order from the GRO without the reference, you get the option to enter the fathers first and surname.

I just checked and the box is 56 characters long so in theory you should be able to enter

Edmonds-Bayliss/Edmonds Bayliss/Bayliss and a specific first name

The problem then might be that the GRO 'decide' not to send the cert if they think there isn't a match and you get a refund.

Have you found her birth registration - what surname does she have then?

I have a family member with a hyphenated surname. Her children are on the grow index 3 times - with each surname word separately & with the hyphenated name. The index reference is the same in each case.

Thanks for the input.
Maud 1912 birth shows E Bayliss and 1933 marriage shows Edmonds-Bayliss. Father Alfred birth and 1910 marriage shows as Edmonds Bayliss and his 1964 death is just Bayliss. The family name shows up in a variety of ways. Maybe just Alfred Bayliss and hope someone at the GRO is in a caring mood.

Much appreciated

GRO has informed me that that they could not find marriage cert given info provided. Not sure how to interpret that. Father not Bayliss but Edmonds-Bayliss or maybe Maud E Bishop is not my Maude?
