Thanks everyone. Going to see if I can figure out where the incorrect dob came from.

Much appreciated

If you have problems ordering from GRO, why not order the cert from the appropriate Register Office?  You can ask them to send it only if it has the 'correct' father.

Marriage cert arrived with problems
William Godfrey(52) widower married Maud Elizabeth Bishop(53) widow 9 Oct 1965 at Hackney Registrar Office. Witnesses were K Bishop and K W Godfrey. Father's were George William Godfrey, Clerk deceased and Frederick Bayliss, Cabinet Maker deceased.
Assuming father name correct then back to square one. What happened to Maud E Bishop(father Alfred  Bayliss) after death of Charles Bishop in 1964.

I am more inclined to think fathers details are wrong on the marriage certificate.
Father Alfred or Frederick - Similar and he may have been called Fred and Maud knew no different.

Occupation was Cheesemonger on baptism though - Cabinet maker on marriage (Maybe it sounded better to be a cabinet maker  ::)  )

I certainly would not discount it without further research

Remember we have the birth date on the baptism and it matches the death record

The 1939 register will have an occupation for Alfred Bayliss which might clinch it for you  ;)

I had forgotten that post. Took awhile to get around ordering cert.
There is only one Maud E Bayliss born 1912 so has to be correct. Why father's name is not correct is a puzzle though
Thanks

Maybe the 'original' given at the time of the marriage was correct.

I got a copy of my marriage cert 2 years ago and my fathers name is wrong. The original is right though.
