A GLITHERO cousin marriage?
« on: Tuesday 05 September 17 09:13 BST (UK) »
Following up on my interest in marriages between cousins, I am trying to determine the relationship between George Clithero (father Mark) who married Lizzie Ann Glithero (father John) in Corby on May 26th 1890.

I have traced both lines back to grandparents which has thrown up a number of already known inter-family entanglements. Lizzie Ann's father - John married Mary Ann Saunders in Gretton on June 24th 1849. I am assuming his father, Jerry,  was Jeremiah Glithero from little Oakley who baptised six children including John between 1794 and 1811.

The question, though, is who was the Glithero witness to the marriage (screenshot attached). I'm presuming her name was Charlotte (not Chocolate  :D which is what it looks like to me!!) but I cannot find a Charlotte Glithero as either a daughter or a wife.

Many thanks

Alan

Have you ruled out this Charlotte?

Death Reg ;
NAME:    Charlotte Glithero
BIRTH:    abt 1827
DEATH:    Oct 1890 - Kettering, Northamptonshire
AGE: 63

I think her age is out and it may be this Charlotte appears on 1851/1861/1871/1881 as born c  1830-1832

1841 we have in Corby we have;
Ann Glithero   66
Jeremiah Glithero40
William Glithero   35
Mary Glithero   35**
Ann Glithero   30
John Glithero   25
Shalos Glithero   10*****

Charlotte Glithero
Baptism Date:   8 Jul 1832
Baptism Place:   Corby, Northampton, England
Mother:   Mary Glithero

1851 she is down as Jeremiahs Daug. (Mary is above Charlotte so should be her Daug, not Jeremiahs)
1861 Jeremiahs Neice, his Sister Mary is with him also.

1871 she is the Neice of these 2 Clithoroes;
Ann Glithero, 64
William Glithero, 72
Charlotte Glithero, 40

Cant find her conclusively in 1881.

EDIT;1881 we have;
Ann Glitheroe, 75
Charlotte Glitheroe, 51, Neice

Many thanks - that explains it.

Jeremiah is John's father - so presumably Ann is Jeremiah's mother. Mary is John's sister - and that tallies now with a baptism of a Charlotte to Spinster Mary Glithero in Corby on July 8th 1832.

Ah! and I've just found the burial of a Jeremiah Glitheroe in Corby on December 29th 1862 He was 65.

However, where Jeremiah came from has so far eluded me.

I haven't been able to find a Jeremiah (born about 1770) in the Northamptonshire indexes and then I wondered if we were in for the dreaded alternative spelling. Indeed there are three Jeremiah Clitheros baptised in Great Oakley (1757 to Jeremiah and Elizabeth; 1779 to Robert and Hannah; 1785 to William and Elizabeth). Although technically possible to be the middle one, the youngest would be much to young.

Hi Trish

Yes, I'm presuming that the Jeremiah in the 1851 census was John Glithero's brother and both the sons of Jeremiah Glithero and Ann Cheney (as above)

Maybe I can now chuck another curved ball into the melting pot. I've been looking at the parentage (and previous) of the other half of the marriage between George and Lizzie Ann. I did know that his father Mark was born to Thomas and Sarah.

I've just noticed this Corby marriage: Thomas Glithero to Sarah Glithero: Sept 4th 1826. Witness: Jeremiah Glithero.

I haven't been able to link this Sarah with my known Jeremiah's but could it be this is another cousin marriage?
