William SOUTER
« on: Wednesday 06 September 17 08:25 BST (UK) »
In case anyone is looking for him, there is a newspaper article in the Carlisle Journal, 15 November 1845 (but taken from the Newcastle Courant) which says that the steam ferry was crossing the river from North Shields [i.e. the Tyne] when it ran down a boat containing 5 men. Four were saved, but the fifth was William Souter aged 22 of Arbroath. The article says the body had not been found. The accident occurred on "Thursday morning week".
