HARVEY - Dunsfold 1800 baptism
« on: Wednesday 06 September 17 17:55 BST (UK) »

Nothing is known about George Harvey, except that he was named as the
father at the baptism of his son, George Harvey on 19th May, 1800, at
Dunsfold, Surrey.

There are no other Harveys in Dunsfold, either before or after 1800
according to the Dunsfold Parish Registers. No parents, no siblings.
Was he just abandoned in Dunsfold? Were his parents visiting his
grandparents in Dunsfold? If I only had his mother's maiden name I
would be away to the races.

According to the 1841 census, there are 18 Harveys born in Surrey,
however, only 2 of an age to be the missing father – just; both were
born in 1786. The other 16 were born post 1800.

Looking at the 1841 census for Sussex, there are 8 George Harveys, but
born 1806 to 1841.

The 1851 census has a George Harvey born 1765, living alone, in Ore,
formerly an ag lab, born Battle, Sussex.

There was a George Harvey born in Effingham, Surrey, familysearch
(IGI) in 1757 who married an Elizabeth TODD, (christened in St. Olave,
southwark, 1765), in 1792, according to the St. Olave Parish
Registers, 1639-1918. This is the only marriage of a 'George' Harvey
between 1783 and 1822 in Surrey. I don't know of any way to prove that
these are the parents! I'm lost. Any suggestions are most welcome.

The actual hand written parish record is online, and as you say it just gives his father as George Harvey. The same record is on FreeREG as well. I expect you know that the son went on to marry Jane Goodchild 23/12/1824 in Dunsfold. This is also on FreeREG. They had children George, Jane, Israel and Sarah.
regards.

There is also a George Harvey bapt. 7 April 1799 Saint Saviour Southwark - parents: George & Elizabeth Harvey

But, it does look like there is another couple in Surrey itself, there is this baptism

Ann Harvey born 14 February 1796, bapt. 17 February 1796, Holy Trinity, Clapham, Surrey to a George HARVEY & Elizabeth JACOB.

paco:  Thank you for your response.  Familysearch is where I found the baptism record and I presume that is where you saw the parish record.  Thanks for mentioning FreeREG.  I always forget about this site, although I know I shouldn't.  Yes, I do know all about the son, his marriage and his children (and
grandchildren,etc.)  Cheers, June

claire:  My thanks to you too.  I have the George Harvey bapt. 7 April, 1799 on a back burner, just in case he had died and the next son born 1800 in Dunsfold was also named George.

The other record you mention is MOST interesting.  I will follow this up.

Yesterday, I went back to the 1841 census and found a George and Elizabeth Harvey (his birth year  is out quite a bit, but her birth year is spot on) living with a HOOKER family in Bethnal Green.  The name HOOKER rang a bell and I found Mary GOODCHILD marrying John HOOKER in Alford, Surrey, 1845, in my tree.  I am trying to connect the two Hooker families, but it boggles my mind.

I need a short break and a small lunch.  Regards, June
