Yes , I know ! He should be with the family at 8 or 9 years old !!?
I don't  have his actual birth cert. Though do have copy of his baptism in weldon 19th march 1882 . He is not on 1901 either . Think he joined army in 1899.  Thanks for your interest. Thought I may have missed something on 1891 cesus !!??

Thought he may be with family somewhere ? Wherever he is though, in theory he should be on census somewhere ,  shouldn't he ?? Or could there be another " obvious "  Reason that I have missed ??

I can't find him in 1901 either but as you say he joined the Army (Northamptonshire Regiment) in 1899 and served in South Africa 1900-1902 and then India. I wasn't sure it was him at first as birth year is down as 1880. Also I have found a man I think is him in the 1911 Census - William Charles Freeman age 29 single born Weldon, a Railway labourer lodging in Peterborough - yet according to his army papers he wasn't discharged until 3 Dec 1911. However as Next of Kin he gives mother Dawkes (presumably meant to be Dorcas) of Weldon and brother Henry. I doubt that there is more than one Walter Freeman with a mother called Dorcas living in Weldon so that has to be him.

There could be several reasons why he doesn't appear in 1891 - he may have been missed off by the Enumerator, his name is so poorly written the transcription is garbled, he could have been staying with a relarive and wrongly entered under thier surname etc.

Well done finding his sevice record ! Iagree that has to be him .....dawkes got to be dorcas as 1st nok then henry brother. ( His brother known as harry ) as 2nd nok because his father henry snr. Died in 1893 ........ Problem ....I missed the date of end of service. ...somehow ...
I have the chap in lodgings in peterborough in 1911 census ,raiway labouer as walter charles.  Clearly written off Anc. But the name has been typed/transcribed. I didn!t check original because our compurter is playing up . Damn!!!!  I thought  something wasn't right !! He leaves uk for canada 1911 or so I thought earlier.somone found a walter. Chas on passenger list in 1911. Oh dear ....  What a flipping mess

Now I'm getting stressed !! ....not only does he go to canada but he changes his name when he marries , then returns to uk in 1953. Under his first surname ..freeman ..??? Then appears back in canada as bradley !!!!!
Can somebody please  check him out in births in uk
To make sure . ....though as I said I have his baptism in weldon 1882 parents dorcas. And henry .!!!!!

His birth is registered as Freeman - mmn Glithers (presumably a mistranscription of Glithero, Dorcas' maiden name)

What is Bradley - a first name he used, or an alternative surname?

Bradley was an alternative surname . I had info that mentioned he changed his name in canada circa 1926.
Some one on rootschat found his marriage in 1922 in canada. In which he used the name bradley . So in canada he was bradley but if travelling to uk freeman.
