If it's him he would have been about 12 years old ! Can anyone have a look to see if there are any other mentions of him up to 1899. Thanks

To answer one of the queries about Walter Charles' service that you posted on the other thread.  Had he signed on to complete 21 years and thus qualified for a pension (which as you know he didn't because he served only 12 years total and there was no disability), the 87 days (3 plus 84) relating to his sentence from the court martial would have been deducted from his total service counting to pension.
You can see this at the bottom of the Statement of Services where his 8 years colour service has been reduced to 7 years 278 days.

Still working on the other queries although if he went to Canada in 1912 (it didn't seem certain from what has been posted so far) then his commitment to the army would have been over.  Equally, what has been posted about the 1911 man looks very much like him, in civilian life but still on the reserve, perfectly legitimate.

MaxD thanks.  Now knowing for certain that him being on reserve, but back in civie street helps . Now I know the  chap in lodging house is definitely him.
Thanks for the explanation of how the field GCM WOULD have affected his pension and how it was worked out .
I'm just wondering if when he did go to canada wether he went to family already there ( a distinct possibility) OR went on an assisted passage scheme of sorts ? A few years ago I found a different (not freeman ) family member had gone on such a scheme to canada in the 1920s.
Nobody alive even knew of his adventure. ? He went with some friends from same town....didn't quite work out they ended up being deported !!!!

Having taken advice (acknowledgements to the 1914-18 experts) to add to my meagre knowledge store, here are the final loose ends on your queries on the other thread.
He needed to turn up in person only once for 1 day's musketry training in year 10 (in his case 1909) or he could elect to do 6 days with the militia.
He could go abroad simply leaving his new address (not unknown for men to just go without bothering with a new address particularly if near the end of reserve service).
Final discharge was able to be done by post.

As your enquiries seem to turn on whether he could have gone to Canada while still officially committed to the military - the answer seems to be yes.
