Thomas William Short
« on: Wednesday 06 September 17 20:31 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information about Thomas William Short, his parents and family, I cant find any records on the 1911 census and I have limited resources. This is the information I have: Thomas William Short b 1887 Wandsworth London, Married Alice Frances Ashlin 20/12/1908 in Croydon.

Served in Cambridgeshire Regiment as a Private and was awarded a medal for gallantry.
Killed in action 26/09/1917 in France and Flanders.

Wondered if anyone could do some lookups to help me. Thanking you in advance and anticipation.

The marriage cert is online on Anc and lists his father as Thomas William Short a horse slaughterman (the same occupation as his son)

If the marriage cert is correct re his father I wonder if your Thomas William could be:-
Thomas Estcourt William Rose Short baptised 9 May 1886 Wandsworth - parents Thomas Rose and Eliza Short - Father Thomas is listed as a Pork Butcher and the GRO Birth index lists Eliza's maiden name as Chaffey

The only marriage that I can see for Short/Chaffey is
March Qtr 1876  Poole  5a 425  Eliza Chaffey /Thomas Rose Poole

I can ‘t  see the couple in the census past their marriage

Other Short births with mother’s maiden name Chaffey from GRO and fathers christian name and occupation added from online baptism and in  all cases is  John??    In 1897 John/Thomas is listed as a Slaughterman.  I can't see another Short/Chaffey marriage

Daisy Elizabeth Rose Short - 1879 Fulham  Father John Rose - Beer Shop Keeper
John Herbert Victor Rose Short -1880 Fulham - Father John Rose - Carman
Jessie Amelia Rose Short -1888 Fulham - Father John Rose - Carman
Harry Rose Short - 1891 Wandsworth - Father John Rose -Carman
Frances Marion Augusta Rose Short - 1894 Wandsworth -Father John Rose -Carman
Violet Louisa Rose Short - 1897 Wandsworth - Father John Rose -Slaughterman

Hi Kay
Thank you for your help but I am a little confused, I have the original marriage certificate for Thomas William Short and Alice Frances Ashlin and it is correct that both Father and Son are listed as Horse Slaughterers. Alice was my Grandmother and have been told various bits of information over the years. The marriage certificate also states that Thomas and Alice were living at Wentworth Rd Croydon in 1908. I am specifically looking for the Parents and wife of Thomas W Short the elder. I havnt even found a record for him as yet. Am I missing the point in the information you have provided as I am not seeing the connection???  I am extemely grateful for your help and indeed anyone else who has contibuted.
