DOBBIE Bertha Mary. Joining the dots........

I am aware that the impossible is probably being asked here, but I'm hoping my fellow Rootschatters might be able to 'join the dots' on this one. Of course I could send for printouts in order to link up the chain of marriages to confirm that each relates to "my" Bertha Mary but I am rather hoping to avoid doing so.

*I have the full name of bridegroom number three (Green) together with years of marriage for Anderson, Green & Petch and can PM them on request.

[There is a marriage in 1920 for one Bertha Marie Dobbie but I think I was probably climbing the wrong tree with this one.]

Bertha Mary & Martin Erkell had one child that I am aware of, Ira Martin born 1918, deceased 1980's. I do have the date.

Hi Miniehaha,

Berth'as death certificate might list the names of all four husbands which could solve your dilemma.

Otherwise I would suggest that you look for church records of the various marriages instead of the marriage certificates.

Spades & John, thank you for your replies.

I wasn't sure as to whether or not I should put the second, third & fourth marriages on the forum as they took place after the BDM cut off date.

John you have cleared up the name of Dobbie for the first marriage. [I should send an e-mail to BDM to have this corrected.] And you have linked the names as also apparently shown on an on line family tree.

I suppose there is sufficient space to record details of four marriages at a death registration? 

I think you are right Spades in that to be really certain, the death printout might do it.

[In another life I worked with a middle aged spinster who announced one day that her elderly mother was about to marry for the 8th time! Each husband had died naturally of old age, so mother just married the next man in her circle of friends. To say that I was gobsmacked would be an understatement.]

Marriage # 1 :  NZSG Marriages (CD) has (1907) bride as surname DOBBIE.

Marriage # 2 :  You queried whether  ... "third christian name may be "Theodore" rather than "Tudor" ?

NZSG Marriages (CD) has bridegroom' s third christian name as "Tudor" (as does Marriage fiche 1941, already given by John).

This man appeared on NZ Electoral rolls always as Alexander Edward Theodore (or Theodor - sp. error) ANDERSON.   
However his New Zealand birth registration, gives his "third christian name" as "Tudor".

1876 - ANDERSON - Alexander Edward Tudor
Parents:  Christine and Julius
[The NZ Birth Index at ancestry.com has surname as "ANDERSEN" - birth reg. 3 Q at Wellington. ]
This man had two previous marriages (- both wives died before 1932 - ) at each using the 3rd christian name "Theodore".   His marriage to Edith CARTWRIGHT - reported in the "Manawatu Standard" - 25 January 1907 - confirms he was the eldest s/o Julius ANDERSON.

In the 1938, prior to his 3rd marriage, he is shown on the Auckland Central e/roll as residing at # 205 Hobson Street - occupation, grocer (he had a number of occupations including farmer, restaurant proprietor.)

Of interest though in 1946, in the same electorate, Bertha Mary GREEN - married, and Frederick William GREEN, labourer, are at # 205 Hobson Street. 
[A E T ANDERSON is in 1946 at Grays Ave, newspaper seller.]

Marriage # 4 :           It seems that Bertha Mary was probably a widow when she wed Mr PETCH in 1948.    [See following post . ]

This man shares a plot with a Raymond Albert GREEN - who appears to have been his son.
PapersPast has reports of the death of this lad in early February 1940, who as a 16-year-old was accidentally shot by a mate.  One report said boy lived with his parents , another said his father was a widower.  Perhaps there's a 1947 death notice for the father (which connects him to Bertha Mary ?)
