People hunt
« on: Thursday 07 September 17 09:30 BST (UK) »
I found this family on the 1901 census and they could belong in my tree. I can't find the marriage or the parents names. They had seven sons so this looks like an exciting connection.

Ralph Anderson           Head   M   45   Sunderland, Durham
Margaret J Anderson   Wife   F   40   Sunderland, Durham
Charles H Anderson   Son   M   26   Sunderland, Durham
Ralph L Anderson   Son   M   18   Sunderland, Durham
Frederick J Anderson   Son   M   15   Sunderland, Durham
Stanley J Anderson   Son   M   14   Sunderland, Durham
Nirman V Anderson   Son   M   10   Springwell, Durham
Harry S Anderson   Son   M   5   Wrekenton, Durham
Frank O Anderson   Son   M   1   Wrekenton, Durham

I'm hoping the Ralph (Head) in this family is Ralph Anderson born in 1857 to Ralph Taylor Anderson and Mary Snaith. They had four children - Ralph, George, Mary and John.

So, this marriage looks good?

Using the new GRO Index search (which shows Mother's maiden name), finds the following births:

Darn it! I needed Ralphs father to also be called Ralph. Looks like a dead end. Great work though and very interesting family, names etc

I need to find out what happened to Ralph Anderson born 1857. He's on the 1871 census with his siblings George, Mary and John W but then he just vanishes!  :(

No! ;D

That marriage was before the start of Civil Registration (1st July 1837), so you have to rely on the Parish Record.
Which means that you have to know which parish to look at?! ::)

Marriage was on 16th February 1836 in Sunderland.
No parents' names on FamilySearch.

The marriage is on Durham Records Online. You will have to buy credits to see it. However the name of the parents will not be on the marriage record. The father's name was only shown on the marriage certificate post -1837.
