I am resurrecting this thread as I have finally found the money to research the information properly. I would appreciate some opinions on what I have found as there are lots of anomalies. I still have not found any documentation for a Thomas Frederick Thompson. The family of John Bailey Thomson/Thompson and Sophia nee Foster and their child Thomas William Thomson/Thompson are the only family that have any real potential that I can see.
THOMSON, RICHARD WILLIAM MMN FOSTER GRO Reference: 1861 J Quarter in WEST HAM UNION Volume 04A Page 20 (I believe this is the ‘Henry’ mentioned on the 1861 census).
THOMSON, WILLIAM ELLIOTT MMN FOSTER GRO Reference: 1862 D Quarter in WEST HAM UNION Volume 04A Page 33
THOMSON, THOMAS WILLIAM MMN FORSTER GRO Reference: 1865 M Quarter in WEST HAM UNION Volume 04A Page 16
I recently got access to parish records, and found these from the church of St John Stratford:
Richard William Thompson b. 11th March 1861 bap. 19th Feb 1866. Father John Thompson, Mother Sophia Miller Thompson. Address Mount St Stratford. Occupation Shoemaker.
William Elliott Thompson b. 10th Nov bap. 19th Feb 1866. Father John Thompson, Mother Sophia Miller Thompson. Address Mount St Stratford. Occupation Shoemaker.
Thomas William Thompson b. 18th Jan 1865 bap. 19th Feb 1866. Father John Thompson, Mother Sophia Miller Thompson. Address Mount St Stratford. Occupation Shoemaker.
I have no idea where the Miller has come from, but it is on all 3 entries. Even with the inconsistencies I think these are the same family on the parish records and GRO.
I ordered the birth certificate for Thomas William and it states:
Thomas William Thomson b. 28th January 1865 at 6 Mount St Stratford. Father John Bailey Thomson Occ Journeyman Stationer. Mother Sophia Thomson formerly Foster. Registered 10th March 1865. Miller is not mentioned and the occupation is weird.
I believe I have found Sophia on the 1881 census: Class:RG11; Piece:551; Folio:5; Page:2
as a ‘lady visitor’ (Widow) to the household of a John Terry (Solicitor) in Kennington Park Road Newington. Backing up the theory that John died between the 1871 and 1881 census.
I believe I have found 2 of here children on the 1881: James Class:RG11; Piece:1703; Folio:89; Page:9, High St West Ham. Occ Hairdresser.
Also Henry Class:RG11; Piece:1729; Folio:108; Page:37 West Ham Union School Leyton Low.
I haven’t found Richard, William or Thomas on the 1881. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Is it a stretch too far that my Thomas Frederick is Thomas William?
Thanks for your input.
