Thanks, Jim,
That would make a lot of sense - the lady on the right is my great grandmother and her husband, my great grandfather was a master gardener, and although in a very prestigious position, I'm not sure that his wages would run to up to the minute fashions, especially as they had thirteen children.

I have wondered about the mix of people in the photograph and often considered whether the woman with white hair, seated in the middle, could have been my great great grandmother, but she died in 1899.

I think you can find the time which this pic was taken base on the time of their clothes, hair styles.
It must be more simple. Good luck!

If only it was.

Looking at faces you can see there is a striking resemblance between the lady centre back & the lady in the front. There is also a resemblance between the 2 younger women particularly around the eyes.
So we may be looking at one family group on the right & a group of brother/sisters/ in-law on the left.
It was pretty much the convention for children (even adult ones) to be seated near their parents.
May be taken just before their mother died perhaps.

Thanks, Jim,
I have always wondered whether the older lady in the middle was perhaps the mother, who died in 1899, but that would mean that the lady on the far right, who is believed to be my great grandmother would have been about 38. She does look much older than that, so perhaps it is not her.
