Thanks Jo/Ladyhawke/Lily,

excellent leads there.

I agree that the original William & Sons builder seems to be a different family. The Limehouse connection seems more likely.

Out of interest, where did you access the England & Wales, Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers, 1567-1970? On-line?

Would William, a labourer, who can't sign his name, be the father of Ann, a nursemaid who can read and write and states her father is a builder?

Why can't we just find a census with William as a builder with a daughter Ann? Could the William and Elizabeth possibly be the right one.....it may be worth checking if Elizabeth is a second wife?

I haven't found one but still looking........ :-\

baptism of son William Thomas King was in 1822 I would therefore assume that Elizabeth would be
William's  first wife  ??? Sister Elizabeth 1824

Quote

William Thomas King Born 21st Dec Baptism 27 Jan 1822 St Mary Islington
Father  William King occ Builder Mother' Elizabeth King, abode Well’s Row

Elizabeth Ann King  Born 10 July Baptism 1 Aug 1824 St Mary
Father William King occ Carpenter Mother Elizabeth King, abode Well's Row

could just be 'clutching at straws' here.........

On 1841 c there appears to be an
Ann King age 9
in the same household as an
Eliz Broo(a)m age 25 School Mistress
Maria Bell 14
All born in this country
HO107; Piece: 665; Folio: 26; Page: 13
Civil Parish: St Mary Islington West; Middlesex

Haven't been able to find Ms Broo(a)m on the 1851 census to see if Ann is still with her

or could Ann have made up a father  ???

Ann King Baptism 21 Jul 1833 St Mary Hendon
Mother Mary King, servant abode Hendon Workhouse
Register Type:   Parish Registers

EDITED

Ok this might be Eliz Broom from 1841 c

Eliza Louisa Broom age 34, single occ School Mistress, School Hs End Street
Father James married Joseph Ebeneza Day age 23 School Master on the 19 July 1851

1861  RG 9; Piece: 73; Folio: 30; Page: 57
Eliza L Day School Mistress with husband

I'll clutch at straws with you Ladyhawk,

1841 Kings Road St Leonard Shoreditch
William King, 35, Cabinet maker, B.I.C.
Mary Ann, 25, B.I.C.
HAnnah, 13, " "
William, 10, " "
Mary Ann, 6, " "
Joseph, 4, " "
Caroline, 2, " "

Could Mary Ann have gone by "just Anne" ????
