Migdale-Marnoch Query
« on: Saturday 09 September 17 15:51 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me the location of Migdale-Marnoch, please? It was the centre of the ancient metal-working industry.
Cheers,
Bob

A pleasure. I am not sure how Marnoch relates to Migdale, however.

If you click on the map you will get a larger version that you can drag around. Or you can go from grid square NH6292 to neighbouring squares by clicking on N, E, S or W in the box next to top left of the map.

I think it's probably archaeologists linking the two places, & the area in between, as an ancient metalworking region. I've only seen it written thus in archaeological papers.

Ah. They're not exactly cheek-by-jowl.

Marnoch is a parish in Banffshire. The largest place in the parish is Aberchirder (pronounced "aber-hirder"), locally known as Foggieloan (or Foggie for short) which was the name of the farm on which the town of Aberchirder was built. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ6252

However the original parish kirk is not in Aberchirder, but near Bridge of Marnoch. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ5950

Marnoch is in the eastern part of Banffshire and is now (since 1995) deemed to be in Aberdeenshire, in the former and now defunct Grampian Region.
