Lud, are you certain your Charles came to Australia? If so, when?

I too am confused. How has Charles O'Hare become Charles Muir?

There are NAA records for lads with next of kin Charles O'HARE.

Jamjar

I am no more informed on that than anyone.

I am working on the assumption that there was indeed a Mary SMITH to John (MUIR) marriage as spelled out by OP.

The OP's statement about second given name -Murray- in this marriage is not factual.
It was another identity John MUIR who had the name Murray as second name not the man of this marriage.

EDIT with apologies to all.

I have had to strike through the above because it is not saying what I meant to say ::)
Try again- The second given name Murray is not seen anywhere other than the marriage index for the man who married Mary SMITH.

The only appearance of it as a second given name for a John MUIR on the Electoral Rolls is for another identity.

Also  one John MUIR was related to one Charles MUIR in the area named by OP-Kurri Kurri and shared his address.

Suspect OP's information my be coming from a dubious online tree.

All needs much clarification.

Hi,

I see John and Sarah O'Hare on the 1881 Scotland Census with 5 sons residing in New Monkland.

1891 John O'Hare is at Airdrie in New Monkland with 3 sons no Sarah.

Until OP "lud" gets back to confirm/eliminate, the following speculation was the closest match to the information provided by the OP.

The only Charles O'Hare death on 21/09/1973 Kurri Kurri, was Charles O'Hare MUIR; Father-James; Mother-Jane; Kurri Kurri #67850/1973
The probate packet may contain a death certificate and other valuable information https://www.records.nsw.gov.au/item/1473186
OP has Charles O'Hare's sister-in-law Mary SMITH marrying a John Murray in 1936 Kurri Kurri. The closest match is the Mary SMITH marriage to John Murray MUIR; Kurri Kurri # 4708/1936
OP has 1968 death for Mary (nee SMITH) who married a John Murray. The Mary (nee SMITH) who married John Murray MUIR died 30/11/1968 aged 57
Mary MUIR parents Joseph and Agnes May; Newcastle  #43269/1968
John (Murray) MUIR wife of the above Mary died 4/06/1994 aged 96 notice Newcastle Herald 08JUN1994 http://ryersonindex.org/search.php
https://nb.billiongraves.com/grave/Agnes-Mary-SMITH-MUIR/16321237

Hopefully with the above information, OP "lud" will be able to confirm/eliminate this Charles O'Hare
