If anyone has access to the Caithness Monumental Inscriptions volumes, please could you look for a Alexander Carnaby born abt 1760 in Thurso, profession, Gentleman. His wife was Janet Downie.

I borrowed this book ages ago and transcribed a little. I didn't transcribe anything from Thurso though. The index is at http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mwi/caithnes.txt
It has Carnaby in Thurso No. 30. For Downie, I can't see any Thurso or Thrumster on http://www.oddquine.co.uk/gravestones/ but it has a link to http://www.graven-images.org.uk/
This shows some Downies at Mid-Clyth.
