Hugh Alexander Kane b. 1878 d. 1935 Bray Co.Wicklow revisiting!
« on: Sunday 10 September 17 10:41 BST (UK) »
I have not looked at this for some time and hope there may be more resources online now to help!
Hugh was b. in Glasgow. He was my grandfather's brother.
When he died in 1935 the informant on the death certificate was his wife Margaret.
I would really like to discover who she was, when and where she married Hugh, if she had children with Hugh, and when she died.
Can anyone suggest a way forward?
Are there electoral rolls for Bray after 1935?
I don't suppose there was an equivalent in Ireland to the 1939 register in UK?  8)

No there isn’t an equivalent of the 1939 register. (Ireland didn’t need it, being neutral during the war).

I can’t see a Hugh Kane marriage to a Margaret in Ireland. What do you know of Hugh’s life in Scotland? Was he still there in the 1911 census, and if so was he single?

A Hugh Kane married a Margaret Mullen in Calton in 1931.

Have you looked to see if Hugh left a will? It should be in the National Archives in Dublin. (There may be a fee to get a copy).

Hugh’s death was registered in Rathdrum registration district. This is the only Margaret Kane death in that district, post 1935. She was 82 in 1957 and lived in what looks like Norwood, Sidminton Rd, Bray. The informant was her daughter Winifred O’Reilly.

Ladyhawk has very kindly posted links to my previous info.
All Kane records I have are CofI, no RC records at all.

Elwyn, was the marriage in Scotland?

Yes. Calton is a Glasgow civil registration district.

At last....

Hugh Kane was buried 19 Dec 1935 in Deansgrange Cemetary, Dublin.  Grave No. 56, Row I South.
This grave already had two occupants, Sarah Curry July 1903 and Caroline Lucas  April 1877.

No sign of Hugh's wife Margaret.

Cheers
