Meaning of Cor Cer on Burial records?
« on: Sunday 10 September 17 16:20 BST (UK) »
Hi,
can anyone tell me please what Cor Cer means in the notes on a burial record. I've come across it on Lancashire OPC for Warton Parish when I was looking at a burial record in 1850 for George Hodgson. The same note is on quite a few others on the same page. I thought it might be Latin Corpus something? and googled it but got nothing useful back.

Could it possibly be the residence - Carnforth ?  See attachment.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

Having now looked at LancashireOPC, I see that "Cor Cer" appears under the "Notes" heading.  However, I have no idea what it means  :-X

Ancestry has images of both the registers and the bishops transcripts, but this annotation is only in the registers, written in the margins.

There's an entry on 10 Nov 1850 where it appears the same note has been written more fully - "Coroner's Certif:"

Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

You're welcome, but don't feel bad. I couldn't work it out, and it only became clear when I saw the fuller version later on.
