11th Hussars, 1889 - Dublin
« on: Sunday 10 September 17 16:50 BST (UK) »
My gt gt grandfather Thomas Michael Murphy, was, according to his Dublin marriage cert in 1889 a Private in the 11th Hussars based at Island Bridge Barracks, Dublin. He was English( born circa 1864) as was his wife, but they stayed in Dublin to raise a family. Are there any online records I can check to find out more about him i.e. the 1891 census for the 11th Hussars?

Any help would be much appreciated :)

A very, very warm welcome to Rootschat.

When the 1891 Census was taken the 11th Hussars were in South Africa.
You can search the Irish Census here (only 1901 and 1911 are available)

Good luck with the search

The reference to the 11th being in S. Africa in 1891 is probably not relevant. Have had a look at his papers and he would not appear to be in the frame for service abroad in '91.

His record also holds clues in hospital stays that he was in Newbridge in 1886 and Dublin in 1888 and that although his discharge took effect in 1896, he had been on the reserve ie in civilian life, since 1890.  The 11th Hussars left Island Bridge for Aldershot initially in the spring of 1889.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

Hi,

I believe Thomas Murphy is also my great great grandfather and he married Annie Kitts. My grandfather is Thomas Murphy (born 14 Nicholas Ave Dublin) and my father is Harry Murphy who now lives in Australia. If we are talking about the same person then I would like to share information.

Regards

Steven Murphy
