Marriage for Joseph Barber and Mary
« on: Tuesday 12 September 17 18:38 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please check the marriage of Joseph Barber and Mary Clark in 1806, Burnham-on-Crouch?

I have a Joseph Barber of the 2nd Regiment of the Surrey Militia whose wife was named Mary. They had twin children in 1804 baptised at Maldon but I haven't found a marriage. Wondering if this marriage might be them even though it's later.

Thanks :)

I have just looked at the marriages for Burnham on Crouch in 1806 and the one you mention isn't one of them.

Hmmm... the Boyd's index has those names with 1806 and a stamped PR BURNHAM ON CROUCH

I'm wondering if the index of 1806 is wrong if this is the couple that had twins in 1804.

They were married in Burnham 9th May, 1807, both single and  of the parish. Witnesses were George Bryant and Ann Bryant. No mention of him being in the army.

JOHN Barber, Infant, buried 30 Oct 1804, All Saints and St Peter, Maldon, Essex
Son of JOS Barber
Buried in St Peter's, son of Jos Barber of the 2nd Regt Surrey Militia3
(FreeREG)

You would need to know where this Reg was before 1804 (and possibly after) to establish a possible place for the Marriage to have taken place.

Where did the surviving Twin end up and Marry?
(I couldnt look as I have no access to the baptism of the Twins)

Trish :)

The other twin was Harriet
Baptized at Maldon, 14 October 1804
BT is here

Possible -
There's a Harriet Barber who married William Holt in Bledlow, Bucks, in 1829
They could be in nearby Chinnor, Oxfordshire, in 1841
Harriet Holt does seem to say she was born in Maldon, Essex, circa 1804 in later census.

Yes the twin ended up in Saunderton parish close to Bledlow and then in Chinnor after marriage.
