Just been on the phone to his niece she thinks it was a thunder storm when the accident happened.

I just found a further report which says it was indeed lightning , hailing and raining !

The CWGC record I gave describes the position of the grave so you may be able to find it if you go there.

I would have thought that there would be a report in the Birmingham Evening Mail for the accident. Copies of the newspaper are held on microfilm at The Library of Birmingham.  You could try contacting them.

I have now been and got a photo of the gravestone. I had already been round that churchyard a few years ago and not noticed that Stone.
