Are the print settings set to high quality?   On mine I have 'photo paper - best quality'.

1.  Was it scanned?

2. Try printing a jpg file that you have printed before. If that prints OK, then it's something to do with the current file. If it doesn't, then there's something wrong with the printer settings or cartridge or paper inserted up side down.

It could be that it's been scanned at the wrong resolution and saved as an over compressed file.

Are you trying to say print a postage stamp size  file at A4 size?

What are the dimensions of the jpeg file?  Is it a very small file?

As has been said print off a photo you know works to see if set up/ settings OK

jpeg/ jpg files are fine, but you can have low resolution/ poor quality files just the same

Where it is saved does not matter. If what was sent was a small/ low quality file I doubt you will ever
 get what you want

for example this is a jpg file but it is very tiny: Are you trying to print the thumbnail rather than the actual picture?

Hi Victoria

It's very likely that it's the file. If you'd like, I could send you my e-mail and you could send it to me and I'll have a look at it.

Japeflakes. printed picture ok but not as bright.

Is the printer set on draft/ low quality?

Are you using poor quality paper?

Are the new cartridges good quality and not out of date

Are there settings to get a quality print

Which printer have you got?

Have you tried cleaning the print heads (software should give you an option)

Just a few ideas. Hope you soon get sorted
