Jackso-Purdy
« on: Thursday 14 September 17 00:07 BST (UK) »
The fine assistance from RootsChat people on parish help in Nott. and Lincoln. have led me to Derbyshire. In the past, we  [a distant cousin] searched for our great grandparents, and with minor success. We are not interested in any of their children; we know them.
I wonder if anyone of you might want this detective challenge. We'd greatly appreciate it.

George Jackson born 1833 in Lenton, Nott [what month and day?]
He married [when and where?] Hannah Purdy
She was  bpt. 20 Apr 1833 [probably South Wingfield. What parish or church is this?] and died about 1905[month and day], probably Clay Cross.
Her father was Samuel Purdy born 1796 [where; who is he?]. Her mother was named Hannah [no last name] probably born 1801, maybe in Nott. These were farm people who seem to have migrated to South Wingfield where George and then his kids worked in a stocking mill. Sam maybe dead by 1851 and the wife by 1861. My guess is that George-Hannah married around 1856 because their first child is 1857 in North Retford, Nott., as in 1859, 1860. But after that , it's Stretton. George died Apr 17,1917. I think that both are buried in Clay Cross. In a postcard to my mother he wrote about his love of pork pies. I sense a good personality there.

No birth certs until 1837 so you would have to depend on a baptismal record but that may not give his exact birthdate - just his baptismal date

Have you not checked freebmd to find his marriage to Hannah and their deaths?  www.freebmd.org.uk

If you want the exact dates you may have to buy a copy of the certs

Have you checked Family Search?

https://familysearch.org/search

Have you looked for Samuel Purdy on any of the available censuses to establish his birthplace?

No exact death dates as Carole says the certs would have to be bought for that info. Burial  -

Samuel Purdy buried 17 Feb 1850 South Wingfield All Saints, aged: 56

I think Hannah Purdy was still alive in 1861 & 1871 living with other children, in one a Marshall relative is with them.

1861 - Class: RG 9; Piece: 2526; Folio: 101; Page: 2 ( Hannah Purdy born 1798 LAMBLEY ) ***

1871  - Class: RG10; Piece: 4700; Folio: 77; Page: 20   ( Hannah Purdy born c1799)

*** Hannah Marshall bpt. 4 Feb 1798 Lambley Holy Trinity , Notts. Parents: Samuel & Elizabeth Marshall

Many thanks for your effort. Sharron Jackson [g.grd.daughter] wrote that she is taking chemo well, thanks you for your kind effort, and looks forward to my sending her any unified results.]
I have an outline now of Jackson and Purdy but with several holes that I tried to fill using your suggestions finding  no luck. I'll list them here.
[PS: Claire: for Hannah Purdy my Apr 20, 1833 contested as 1834 could be wrong. I might have noted the wrong page in Matlock years ago where the parish registers resided. It was p. 77. If your three say 1833, so it was. Hannah will never know.
1. Samuel Purdy b. in Derbyshire, 1796.[Census 1841, p. 8 and 1851, p. 25] Where? Who were his parents and where did they come from? [Namesake granddaughter, Hannah Purdy, years ago told me that she didn't know but wondered if it were Ireland. Seemed nonsensical]
2. Sarah Hall Jackson death date. [is wife of William; they produced Geo 1833]
3. Of the 8 Purdy children two births/bpt seem unrecorded from 1833-1837: Eliza and William.
