thank you all so much for all your help and loads of information to go and check out but I now think we have found Donald and due to a miss spelling of his last name I will let you know how I get on when check all information Sandra your info has helped so much with his siblings xx

If this is your man (& he appears the most likely) he died at the Pommern Castle trench system which is just north of Frezenberg Belgium.
He'd previously been involved in the Battles of Pilkem Ridge & Langemark which were phases of the 3rd. Battle of Ypres.
By the 27th. & hampered by constant rain the 8th. SH were being shelled & expecting a German counter attack which never came.
Although no casualties are mentioned for that day the Batt. suffered over 350 casualties during that period.
He was almost certainly killed by shelling.
