Hold on Boy Scout.  You are getting your amalgamations wrong.

All that has been said about the photograph is that it is a RNAS officer.  It is highly unlikely (impossible?) that it is William James Dupree who, his record is quite clear, served in the RFC and the RAF.  There is no record for him in the RNAS.  An RNAS officer would appear in the Navy List, the only Depree in the Royal Navy at the time was a Surgeon Lieutenant.

which means that this picture was taken before the formulation of the RFC when they would have been amalgamated. - Not so, it was the RFC and the RNAS who together became the RAF.  A pilot in the RNAS is hardly likely to have become an Air Mechanic Class 2 clerk.

The picture is of someone else.

Could it be another member of the Dupree family?

There was a John Robert Dupree born Holborn in 1897, or Harry Andoire Dupree born Battersea 1891 both in the RNAS, records in the National Archives.

An interesting find. Can you see any connection to the poster's Dupree's?
If it's either of these men I would say going on how old he looks that it's Harry.

No obvious connection, but I have not investigated the birth place of the poster's Dupree. It was just the fact that the two men I found were both  RNAS, it will be up to Boy Scout to decide if it is worth downloading their records to more information.

The William James Depree RFC/RAF was born Marylebone (and married 1906).

John Robert Dupree was a rating in the RNAS and transferred to the RAF as a tinsmith, father John Francs Dupree.

Harry Andoire Dupree was also a rating and also transferred to the RAF as a carpenter.

As Jebber says, whether it is worth downloading the records is up to Boy Scout but having seen the  records neither of them was a RNAS officer pilot.

Thank you MaxD, I see now that I am too keen to obtain a quick resolve to this. It could of course be a friend or relative in which case it's unlikely that the man in the picture could be identified.
The two Dupree's mentioned here could of course be the man in the picture but they do not appear in the Depree family we have researched.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to post.
