Great gran and Eric Bennett aged 5 went to USA fronm UK and back in 1917

How far away and how different a culture
In the 50', s and early 60 be would Brits have been there as engineers and administrators ??

Geographically, PNG is across the top end of Australia.  It's not all that far from the tip of Queensland, but not very people live right up the top of Queensland (too hot; wild & isolated country; inaccessible in wet season)  The culture is VERY different from European culture.  Look it up on Wiki   

While it was under Australian administration, yes there were a lot of expatriates working as engineers, various other trades, administration - from various countries.   

Not the sort of place you'd go for a honeymoon
