Where is William Baker 1911
« on: Saturday 16 September 17 21:17 BST (UK) »
I have some information on William but I am unable to find him on the 1911 census, he was born according to Army Records in 1892 Denaby Main Swinton to John and Mary Baker, siblings are Mary, Amelia, Phoebe, Frances and John James.
I have the family in 1908 living St John's Terrace Normanton,
1911 John and John James were lodging at Pottery Street Castleford, John was a widow but no William. On his Army Records 1914 it says he is lodging a 6 Rhodes Street Castleford so I know he is still in the area but I just can't find him on the 1911 census, I do hope you can help me find him.
Thanks in advance.

1911 lookups aren't allowed on here - but before you get to that, have you verified the info from the Army records as to William's birthdate?

The family is in Walsall in 1901:

John Baker 40 Coal miner hewer Staffs Portobello
Mary do 39 Lancs Pendlebury
Mary J do 12 Staffs Bloxwich
Phoebe A do 9 Yorks Denaby Main
William do 5 Yorks Denaby Main
Frances A do 3 Yorks Denaby Main
John J do 7mo Yorks Denaby Main [though actually his birth was registered in Walsall, mmn Evans]

I am still not clear whether you have ascertained his correct birthdate?  You knew from 1901 that he was only 5 then, so the 1892 birthdate from the Army record looks clearly wrong (in fact it was his sister Phoebe Ann who was born in that year).

You'll be at a big disadvantage in your searches if you are starting out with the wrong birth details.

There's a William Baker mmn Evans birth reg in Rotherham, Dec qtr 1895, which may or may not be him.

Who did your William Baker marry, and where and when did he die?

Thank-you

Added:
That William Baker enlistment gives his age as 22 years and 117 days on 3rd April 1914, which gives birth as 7th December 1891, if we have all calculated correctly.

William Baker service number 139860 from Warborough according to Ancestry, but looks like Mexbrough on original, has birth around 1895, and service record in 1919 that looks like William from your family.  (However age 24 years 4 months in July 1919, so born about March 1895).

Already in army by 1911, which may be why he is more difficult to find?
