No WW1 Medal Card for Thomas Crawford
« on: Saturday 16 September 17 22:44 BST (UK) »
Hi
My other Great Grandfather Thomas Crawford who was born in Liverpool in 1871 served on a Merchant Cruiser called SS Ottway which was converted to an armed Merchant Cruiser. That meant it was now HMS Ottway but I can not find his medal card despite seeing his medals.

Why or where would I find it please?

Cheers

Colin Crawford

Do you know what his official number was?  There are some RN medal records for the names Thomas and Tom but one needs the number to distinguish them, there are no personal details.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Hi
I don't know his official number sorry, as far as I can remember his number wasn't on his medals.

He was born at Brownlow Hill Workhouse in Liverpool in 1871 then he disappeared with his mother until he turned up again in about 1895 -1896.

The only other ship I know of is the Adriatic but which one?

Attached photo shows Thomas Crawford on the left but don't know who the other guy is.

Any help would be great.

Cheers

Colin

Still no record appearing.  There doesn't appear to be a Royal Navy vessel called the Adriatic, he could well have served on the RMS Adriatic as a merchant seaman out of Liverpool but no merchant navy record found either.
If you have access to, or could ask someone to look, his medals should be engraved or impressed inscribed around the rim which might include a number.  Otherwise no result that I can find I'm afraid.

Hi
He was on the Adriatic but I don't think it was at war time, I was only saying that it was another ship he was suppose to be on.

Cheers
